Travel Insurance
I don't travel without it. I've researched several travel insurance providers and Travelex is, in my opinion, the best. Purchase through this link within 21 days of your deposit and pre-esisting conditions are covered.

International Cell Phones

Luggage Concierge
Luggage is a drag - schlepping it to the airport, checking it in, dragging it through customs... It's too bad you can't "beam" it to your destination. We'll let you know when we've figured that one out, until then, we've found the next best thing. Luggage Concierge will pick your luggage up before you depart and have it delivered to your destination by the time you arrive. No more watching suitcase after suitcase pass on the conveyor hoping yours will show up un-damaged or, that it will show up at all. Try it once, you'll never want to travel any other way.

Rosetta Stone - Free 2-Day Shipping in the U.S.
Used by the US State Department, NASA, the Peace Corps (and others) AND suitable for anyone age 6 and up, Rosetta Stone's language learning program is "The fastest way to learn a language. Guaranteed ¢¢." Use the link above to receive free 2-day shipping with your order.

Magellan's
Magellan's is probably the largest source of travel supplies anywhere. If you need luggage, adaptor plugs, wrinkle-free clothing or anything else related to travel, you will find it here. They also have a section with great travel advice so make sure you check it out while you're there.

New Headings
Ex Officio
Clothing needs are different on a safari than on a typical vacation. You need to pack super light so need multi-purpose clothing and color, or lack of, is very important. Bright colors freak the animals out, white shows dirt (which there is a lot of) and dark colors attract bugs. New Headings and Ex Officio are my favorite sources for safari and adventure clothing.

Longitude Books
Longitude Books is my favorite source for travel books. Whether you are planning your next vacation or are a seasoned armchair traveler, you will find everything you need here. Click your destination on the map to view a list of recommended books. If you are traveling with children, use the link near the top right of the recommendation screen, "Books for Kids", to see the suggested books for children, complete with age guidelines.

Audio and e-books
Can't decide which books to bring? You can bring them all and still have room in your bag for souvenirs. Below are my favorite sources for e-books for your laptop, PDA, e-book reader or mp3 player.

University of Virginia's e-book Library
This is a great source for free e-books for your handheld device. There's even a section for young readers. (although, I enjoy them, too)

eBooks.com
eBooks.com has a huge selection of books for you to download and take with you anywhere. They probably have the largest selection on the internet.
Be sure to check out:

Amazon.com
The selection isn't as large but it's hard to beat the prices.

Fictionwise
It can be a little difficult to find what you want here but Fictionwise also has great prices on ebooks. New books are always 15% off and you can save even more when you join their Buywise club.

Audible.com
Don't want to have to read books when you travel? Audible.com has you covered. Download audio books to your laptop, mp3 player or handheld computer and you can listen to your books everywhere you go. (They also have magazines and NPR programs available.) Don't have an mp3 player? Get one free when you join by clicking on the "Need an audio player?" tab on the right of the page.

After you return
Shop National Geographic! Ok, you're home but, you wish you could go back to that amazing country you just left. One of my favorite things to do when I miss Africa or another of my favorite places is to "go back" through pictures and music. And my favorite source for authentic music, books, dvds and other things that take me back is the National Geographic store. I hope you enjoy their products as much as I do! (It's also a great way to get those souvenirs you couldn't fit in your luggage!
